Connect Your Money to Claude: Connectors, Bank Access, and MCP

Short answer. Link your banks once in FYN. Claude connects to FYN over MCP, and it never connects to your bank. The tools are read-only. Agent activity shows what Claude asked. You can disconnect the app anytime in FYN. The reference is the MCP docs.

Checked November 3, 2026 against Claude's custom-connector help, Claude's skills help, the Credit Karma and Plaid directory listings, and FYN's MCP docs. FYN is our product, so the FYN row below is the path we build.

How people connect Claude to money

With nothing connected, Claude answers a spending question from a typical household. People close that gap four ways. The marketplace calls the installable ones connectors and plugins. A skill is instructions. An upload is a snapshot. FYN is a custom MCP server: a live record.

Four ways to give Claude money data: a directory connector, a skill plus a file, one bank's MCP, and FYN over MCP.

A directory connector is an app someone else hosts. Anthropic's listings say it does not control the tools a developer ships. Two of them show up in a search for bank access, and neither is your checking account. Intuit Credit Karma, added March 2026, has one tool, get_credit_factors: payment history, utilization, age, mix, inquiries, and total accounts. No transactions and no receipts. Plaid Developer Tools, added November 2025, debugs a Plaid integration: Link analytics, usage, Item diagnostics, and teams. That is a builder's dashboard, not a consumer login.

Budgeting apps publish their own servers. Monarch's connector works in Claude, read-only unless the tool asks for write and you approve it. Monarch says it cannot undo that change. Copilot Money's MCP is read-only. FYN's tools have no write path.

A skill is instructions Claude loads when a task matches. Anthropic's help lists skills on Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team, and Enterprise, with code execution on, and separates the two ideas: MCP connects Claude to a service, and a skill is the procedure. A finance skill can categorize a CSV. It does not open a bank. Skills you upload are not reviewed by Anthropic. Read the SKILL.md before you turn one on.

An uploaded statement covers that export. Next week shows up when you export again. The file sits in the chat under Claude's privacy settings. Deleting the chat is the off switch.

A few banks publish an MCP of their own. First Internet Bank's beta covers that bank's personal checking, savings, and money market accounts, on Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise. The bank says the link is read-only, that you sign in at the bank, and that you re-authenticate every 7 days. The beta agreement still says that proceeding authorizes a third-party service, and that you are responsible for activity that uses that sign-in. The connector cannot see a card at another institution, or a receipt.

Why a read-only ledger is the safer door

Keep the bank password out of the chat. On FYN Pro the link is Plaid, the sign-in happens in Plaid's connection, and FYN does not see or store that password. Claude then talks to FYN. The MCP docs say the server does not call Plaid or your bank. It answers from the copy FYN already keeps.

  • You link each institution once. Pro syncs up to 15 accounts. Another assistant reuses that link.
  • The only OAuth scope is read. No FYN tool creates, changes, or deletes your data, and none of them move money.
  • Agent activity names the app and what it asked for: balances, transactions, budgets, subscriptions, receipts. FYN emails you when a new app connects.
  • Disconnect it under Settings → Agent access. Revoke the app and its tokens stop. Removing the connector in Claude stops Claude from calling. If the client supports revocation, it tells FYN too. Support varies. Revoking in FYN is the sure step.
  • The same URL works in ChatGPT, Grok, Cursor, and any other MCP client.

A connector that can recategorize or create a rule asks the chat to stop where you meant. FYN does not offer that path. check_affordability says whether a purchase fits the month. It holds nothing and spends nothing.

Gemini has no comparison page here yet. ChatGPT Finances and Grok Finance do, because those products link accounts inside the assistant. Claude has no matching first-party bank product, so this guide stays on Claude. Other clients are in Connect your money to ChatGPT, Claude, or any AI agent, and the bank-login case is in Banks are finding AI agents in customer accounts.

Connect Claude to FYN

Link the banks first, then add the connector. These steps follow Claude's custom-connector help as checked November 3, 2026.

  1. Create a FYN account and, on Pro, link the banks and cards you want Claude to read. Pro is $9.99 a month, bank sync is Plaid, up to 15 accounts, and FYN does not see the bank password. A free account can connect and answer from receipts. Bank tools stay thin until a bank is synced.
  2. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors. Remote custom connectors are on Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team, and Enterprise, including Cowork and Desktop. Free can add one. On Team an Owner or Primary Owner adds it for the organization. On Enterprise that includes a role that can manage Libraries. Each person signs in.
  3. On an individual plan, select + Add, then Add custom connector.
  4. Name it FYN. Paste https://mcp.fyn.fyi. Continue.
  5. Keep the sign-in Claude detected. Choose Sign in now. For the OAuth client, keep Use Claude's published identity, which Anthropic marks as recommended. Select Add. Leave request headers empty. There is no API key to paste into the chat.
  6. Sign in to FYN and select Allow. The scope is read-only. The screen does not ask for a bank password.
  7. In a chat, open +, then Connectors, and turn FYN on. Ask how much you spent on groceries this month. Claude calls FYN from Anthropic's cloud, on the web, on Desktop, and in Cowork.

On Team and Enterprise, members choose Connect on the connector an owner already added, then sign in to their own FYN account. FYN emails you when a new app connects.

What Claude can ask

With the connector on, Claude reads your FYN record:

  • Groceries this month compared with last month.
  • Categories over the budget FYN is keeping.
  • Balances and net worth.
  • Recurring charges, and what they total.
  • Line items on a receipt. Price history is on Pro.

Agent calls are 500 a day on Free and 10,000 a day on Pro. Price history is on Pro. The MCP docs list each tool. Open disputes stay in the FYN app. ChatGPT or Cursor reads the same record after you connect it.

What stays in your hands

  • Plaid is read-only, and the MCP tools have no transfer or bill-pay path.
  • After you revoke the app, later calls fail. The token covers the FYN account that approved it.
  • A figure in a Claude reply stays in that chat. Delete the chat in Claude when you want it gone.

Link the banks once. Point Claude at https://mcp.fyn.fyi. Read Agent activity when you want the list of what it asked. Disconnect the app in Settings when you are done. The ledger stays in FYN. The bank login stays with Plaid. One read-only record, every assistant you use, and a door you can close yourself.

FAQ

Can Claude connect to my bank account?

Claude has no first-party bank link. Credit Karma's directory tool returns credit-score factors. Plaid's directory listing is for developers who build on Plaid. A bank's own MCP, where one exists, covers that bank. Link the banks in FYN on Pro, through Plaid, then add https://mcp.fyn.fyi. Claude talks to FYN.

Does Claude get my bank password?

Not through FYN. On Pro the bank sign-in happens in Plaid, and FYN does not see or store the bank password. Claude signs in to FYN with OAuth. Claude's help says that sign-in lets Claude use the service without seeing the service password. The scope is read-only.

Can Claude move money or edit my budget through FYN?

No. The only scope is read. No tool transfers money, pays a bill, or edits a budget. The purchase check says whether an amount fits. It holds nothing and spends nothing. Revoke the app under Settings, then Agent access, and later calls fail.

How is this different from a skill or an uploaded statement?

Anthropic's help says MCP connects Claude to an outside service, and a skill is the procedure. An uploaded statement is a snapshot in that chat. It goes stale until the next export. A FYN connector reads the live record, stays read-only, and you disconnect the app in FYN.

Which Claude plans can add the FYN connector?

Claude's custom-connector help, checked November 3, 2026, lists remote MCP on Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team, and Enterprise, including Cowork and the desktop app. Free accounts can add one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise an owner adds it, then each person signs in. Bank sync is FYN Pro at $9.99 a month. Agent calls are 500 a day on Free and 10,000 a day on Pro.
