How to Export Monarch Money Data

Checked .

If you searched for how to export Monarch Money data, or how to download your transactions, the file Monarch documents is a CSV on the web. It covers transaction history and balance history. It does not, on the pages below, cover a budget spreadsheet, a phone-app download, or a schedule for how often the file updates.

Do this while you are logged in. Monarch's download article says the full history stays available after the subscription or trial ends. A file on your computer does not depend on that login later.

Cancel steps are on how to cancel Monarch Money. The export, then the next app, is on how to switch from Monarch Money. Other products are on Monarch Money alternatives. The longer FYN comparison is on FYN vs Monarch Money.

Disclosure: we build FYN. This page is on FYN's site. The product note is at the end, after the download steps, and it is labeled as ours.

Download transactions and account history

These steps are Monarch's, from its download article, updated October 20, 2026 and re-read October 29, 2026. The article's title is "Downloading Transaction or Account History." The body says you can download transaction history and balance history as a CSV, for one account or for all of them, for your own records, for taxes, or to use in a spreadsheet. There is not a third file named account history on that page. Account history, in the title, is those two downloads.

One account

  1. On the web, go to Accounts and select the account.
  2. Select Edit in the top right.
  3. Select Download transactions or Download balance history.

Every account

  1. On the web, go to Settings, then Data.
  2. Select Download Transactions or Download account balances.

The CSV downloads to your device. The article says renaming it can make it easier to find later. Transactions and balances are two downloads. Keep both. For best results, download 5,000 transactions or fewer at a time. Larger downloads take longer and are more likely to fail, so if you have a lot of history, split it by date range. The article does not name the control that applies that date range on Settings, then Data. How to pick the range there is Not documented.

What the CSV includes

The download article does not publish a header row. A complete column list is Not documented on that page.

What is documented is a transaction ID. Monarch's import article, updated August 14, 2026, says a transaction ID is included automatically when you export transactions from Monarch. The same article says you can edit that file and re-import it, and use the transaction ID to match existing rows when you change the amount, category, tags, notes, or other fields. It also says CSV imports cannot be undone. Read that article before you replace rows in Monarch. The balance-history download is a different file. The import article does not say the balance file includes a transaction ID.

Category, Tags, and Notes appear in that import article as optional columns the importer will map when they are present in a file you upload. Account, Amount, and Date are the headers it requires for a transaction import. That is the format Monarch accepts on the way back in. It is not a published schema of the file you download. Do not treat those names as a guaranteed header row.

The balance import article, updated July 10, 2026, says a balance file you import needs a date column and a balance column, and one account per file. That is the import format. The column names on the balance file you download are Not documented on the download article.

Whether receipt images, attachments, rules, or goals travel inside either CSV is Not documented on the download article.

Budgets are not in the documented download

A CSV of the budget itself is Not documented. The download article names transaction history and balance history. It does not name budgets, planned amounts, or category targets.

Monarch's Importing and Exporting section, read October 29, 2026, lists five articles: the retail sync extension, importing transactions, downloading transaction or account history, importing large CSV files, and importing receipts. None of them is a budget export.

The budget article, updated October 22, 2026, explains the two budget types, category and flex. On the web, the budget page shows Planned, Actual, and Remaining. On mobile, the view defaults to the planned amount and the remaining amount, and you can switch the last column between Remaining and Actual. The article tells you how to edit a planned amount, move money between categories, and reset the budget. It does not describe a download of those amounts.

The import article says budgets or aggregate cash flow totals can not be imported. That sentence is about bringing a budget file into Monarch. It is not a download button. A download of goals or of rules is also Not documented in the Importing and Exporting section.

Spending that already posted is still in the transaction CSV, if those rows are in the download. The planned number you typed for a category is the part the help center does not show you how to export.

Web versus the mobile app

The history download is a web step. The download article says downloads are available on the web, and both step lists open with "On the web." A download of that same Settings, then Data, file from the iOS or Android app is Not documented on the article. Use a browser.

Reports are a second path, and the phone is explicit there. Monarch's reports article, updated September 21, 2026, says that on the web you can export the transactions behind a report as a CSV. It does not name the button. Charts can be downloaded as an image. Look for the download or share option in the top right of the chart. On the Cash Flow tab, the summary card includes a Download PNG option.

The same article lists what is not available on mobile yet. Exporting transaction data as a CSV is on that list. Creating, renaming, and deleting saved reports is on it too. You can view saved reports on the phone, and you can share a chart as an image (Sankey, bar, pie, and treemap) from the share icon. The CSV of the transactions behind the report is the web step.

A filtered report is the documented way to take a slice when the Settings, then Data, date control is Not documented. Reports can filter by timeframe, category, merchant, account, tag, amount, and more. If the phone and the browser disagree about how far back the history goes, the article says the date range is different and the data is not missing. Set the range to All time. An account set to hide transactions from reports is left out of Reports. Whether that setting also removes rows from the Settings, then Data, download is Not documented.

How often you can download

How often is Not documented. The download article does not state a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule. It does not state a cap on the number of downloads. It does not describe an automatic export that runs while you are away.

What it does say is that you download on the web, and that your full history stays available to download even after the subscription or trial ends. There is no "export every Sunday" in that article. You run the download when you want a new file.

If you are canceling, export before you are in a hurry. The cancel steps, the trial clock, and what happens to connections 30 days later are on how to cancel Monarch Money. The download article's line is the one to remember: the history stays available to download after the subscription or trial ends. Deleting the account is a different step. Do the download before you delete.

A Plus tax file, which is not the budget

Monarch Plus has a separate export. The business tracking article, updated April 23, 2026, says Business Tax Prep, under Reports, maps categories to Schedule C lines and exports a summary. It is for Plus members who have at least one business entity. You pick one entity and one tax year. The article lists 2025 and 2026. The summary can be a PDF or a CSV, and you can include transaction-level detail with the line totals. Monarch calls it a preparation aid, and it says the file is not an official IRS document. Unmapped categories are left out of that export.

That file is not your household budget, and it is not the full account-history CSV. The reports article says the Business Tax Prep tab is not available on mobile yet. Core members do not get this export. The business tracking article says business tracking is for Plus.

What to do with the file

Save the transaction CSV and the balance CSV, and rename them so you can tell them apart. Monarch's own reason for the download is your records, taxes, or a spreadsheet. Open the transaction file and confirm it has rows and a header. The help center does not publish that header, so the check is yours: dates, amounts, and more than one account if you used the all-accounts download.

If the download fails or the file looks short, use the 5,000-transaction note and try a shorter date range. If you still cannot find the range control, use Reports on the web, filter the view, and export the transactions behind that report. That path is documented. The Settings, then Data, date control is not.

Moving the history into another product is a different page. The order, including cancel, is on how to switch from Monarch Money. The field of products is on Monarch Money alternatives.

Where FYN fits

FYN is the account to open when you want the file in a plan that stays free. Start free. No card. The free plan does not expire, and it does not ask for a card.

The pricing page lists 1 household member on Free and unlimited household members on Pro. Everyone shares the plan's limits.

Receipts are 20 a month on Free and 200 a month on Pro. That count covers photos and emailed receipts. Apple Pay and Google Wallet purchases are logged as you pay, on Free and on Pro, including a payment alert tap on iOS.

Pro is $9.99 a month. Bank sync is Pro only, through Plaid, for up to 15 accounts. A free account does not sync a bank.

FYN does not have an import from Monarch button. The Accounts page has Import a statement, for an account that does not connect through Plaid. The file can be a PDF, CSV, OFX, or QFX, or a photo. A CSV needs an account label. If the columns do not match, you pick them. Date, description, and one amount column are required: Amount, Money in, or Money out. Merchant and Category are optional. One file is imported under one account label, so a one-account Monarch download keeps that account's rows together. The balance-history CSV has no balance column on that screen. Keep it as your spreadsheet. You can also email a PDF or OFX statement to the address in Settings, then Receipts. That path does not take the CSV.

The longer comparison is FYN vs Monarch Money. Open the free account when you have the files.
