Is Monarch Money Worth It in 2026?
Prices and features checked .
Monarch Money is worth it if you will use a paid dashboard for budgets, linked accounts, net worth, and reports, and you are fine paying after a short trial. It is not worth it if you wanted a free plan, if receipts are the main thing you need, or if you will not open the app once the trial ends. Core is $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year. Plus is $199.99 a year. The trial is 7 days. The price list, the trial rules, public discounts, and how to cancel are on Monarch Money pricing. The trial length, the card, and the public code are on Monarch Money free trial.
Disclosure: we build FYN. This page is on FYN's site. It is a review of Monarch's price, not an ad for us. FYN is one option in the cheaper section below, labeled as our product. If you have already decided to leave, cancel on how to cancel Monarch Money, and move the history on How to Switch from Monarch Money. Other apps, with a limitation for each, are on Monarch Money alternatives. The feature grid against FYN is FYN vs Monarch Money.
The short answer
Worth it when you want the household picture and you will look at it. Budgets, linked accounts, custom reports, and net worth are on Core. A partner can be added at no extra cost, on the plan you already pay for. Monarch is a strong, polished product, and it is the closest Mint-style dashboard: accounts, a budget, and net worth in one place. The annual Core price, $99.99, is the number to judge that against.
Not worth it when you wanted to start free, when the job is mostly receipts, or when a week is not enough time to know if you will keep the habit. The plan cards require a payment method for the trial. If you do not cancel in settings before it ends, the plan price starts. There is no free plan after that.
Plus, at $199.99 a year, is a second decision. The day-to-day dashboard is already on Core. Pay the higher bill only if you want the forecasting, the business tracking, or the deeper investment tools described below.
What you get for the money
These are the items on Monarch's pricing page on October 28, 2026, plus the connector and receipt articles linked in Sources. The page lists two plans.
Core price. The plan card shows $8.33 a month when you pay $99.99 for the year. Switch the card to monthly and the same script shows $14.99 a month, billed $14.99. The FAQ states both: a yearly subscription at $99.99 or a monthly subscription at $14.99. Structured data on the page describes those as US dollars, plus tax where it applies. The card says "Free 7-day trial, then" the plan price, and that a payment method is required.
Plus price. The Plus card shows $16.67 a month, billed $199.99 annually, then $199.99 a year after the same 7-day trial. A monthly Plus price was not on the page.
Budgets. The Core card says "Build a budget that fits your life." The feature table lists two budgeting approaches, a budget created from real spending patterns, and alerts before you overspend.
Bank connections. The feature table lists connections to 13,000+ banks and financial institutions. That sync is part of the paid plan, not a separate add-on on the page.
Investments and net worth. The Core card says "See your complete net worth." Plus, in the pricing FAQ, is for planning further ahead: forecasting tools, multiple income sources such as a small business, and a deeper look at investments. The Plus card adds a forecast of the path to retirement, business income and expenses, P&L reports and tax-prep exports, advanced investment analysis, and a will.
Couples and household sharing. The feature table says "Add a partner for free," on the plans above. The same table lists read-only sharing with a financial professional, and use on web, mobile, or iPad.
Reports. The Core card says "Visualize your money with custom reports." The feature table also lists custom reports of spending patterns, plus reminders for subscriptions and upcoming bills.
Receipts. The feature table says "Scan and itemize receipts for detailed categorization." The receipt article, updated October 28, 2026, is the how: scan or upload a receipt, or forward the email. It reads merchant, amount, date, and line items when the receipt has them.
The assistant, and the official connector. The feature table lists an AI assistant and a weekly summary of spending, net worth, and upcoming expenses. Separately, Monarch's blog post dated October 21, 2026 says the MCP connector is back, so Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini CLI, and Cursor can use live Monarch data. You choose read, which lets the tool answer questions, or read and write, which can also change things such as categories and rules. The connector help, updated October 22, 2026, says access is read-only unless the tool asks for write and you approve it. The connector is on Core and Plus. This is a real, official connection. It is not unique to one company: FYN has a read-only connector too, described with the cheaper options below.
Taken together, that is a full personal-finance dashboard. If you will use it most weeks, $99.99 a year for Core is a plain price for a polished product. The rest of this page is about the cases where that price is the wrong one.
Where people hit friction
The annual cost, and no free plan. After 7 days you are on a paid plan. Twelve Core payments at the monthly price come to $179.88. The annual card is $99.99, which is the cheaper way to keep Core if you already know you will stay. Plus is $199.99 for the year, about twice annual Core, for the forecasting and investment tools above. If you only wanted a place to check last month's spending, that is a lot of subscription for the habit.
On October 28, 2026 the pricing page showed a banner: "Get 30% OFF Core for one year with code WELCOME." The footer says the discount is for new users only, cannot be combined with other offers, is valid for the annual Core plan only, and the code may expire or be deactivated at any time. A disclaimer on the same page says promo codes apply to annual Core billed directly by Monarch, not by Apple or Google. App Store and Google Play prices were not checked.
The pricing FAQ recommends signing up on the web rather than in the Apple or Google store, so the subscription is easier to manage. It also says you can cancel anytime, and that there is a no-questions-asked money-back guarantee. It does not say how long that window is. Do not treat the guarantee as a dated free trial. The dated trial is the 7 days on the plan card.
Receipts are included, and they have limits. Needing a receipt is not a hole in the product. The limits are in the receipt article. Refund line items are not currently extracted. Parsing quality varies by merchant: structured emails from major retailers tend to extract, and plain or odd formats may not. A forwarded email has to come from a verified address. The account email and household member emails are already verified. Matching uses merchant, amount, and date, and a receipt only matches a posted transaction, not a pending one. Those receipts live inside the paid subscription once the trial ends. If receipts are the whole job, you are paying for the dashboard around them.
The connector does not see every account. The help article says Finicity-provided data is not available through MCP, so answers can leave those accounts out. It says this can include some Fidelity brokerage accounts. Usage resets weekly. Plus members get more usage than Core, and Plus has no weekly cap on writes aside from safeguards against misuse. If you turn on write, Monarch says it cannot undo what the tool changes. ChatGPT support is web only, and it requires a ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Education plan. The connector is a real feature. It is also a feature with holes, and those holes are on Monarch's own page.
What it costs next to other apps
Same-day prices from each company's public page. FYN is last, and it is ours. Scroll the table sideways on a phone. Store checkouts can differ from the web price. Monarch says so, and YNAB says app stores may still ask for a card on a trial that the website does not.
| Plan | Price | Trial or free plan |
|---|---|---|
| Monarch Core, monthly | $14.99 a month, plus tax where it applies. | 7-day trial. A payment method is required. No free plan after that. |
| Monarch Core, annual | $99.99 a year, shown as $8.33 a month. Plus tax where it applies. | Same 7-day trial, then $99.99 a year. |
| Monarch Plus | $199.99 a year, shown as $16.67 a month. Plus tax where it applies. | 7-day trial, then $199.99 a year. A monthly Plus price was not on the page. |
| YNAB | $14.99 a month, or $109 a year shown as $9.08 a month. Plus tax. | 34-day trial. No card if you start on ynab.com. No free plan after that. |
| Copilot Money | $18 a month, or $109 a year shown as $9 a month. The yearly price is a limited-time offer, instead of $119. | 1-month trial. The FAQ says there is no permanent free tier. |
| Rocket Money | A free plan. Premium is a price you choose. Premium+ is $15 a month plus tax. | Premium has a 7-day trial. The free plan does not expire into a bill. |
| FYNOur product. This is FYN's site. | Free to start, no card. Pro is $9.99 a month. | The free plan stays free. Bank sync is Pro only, up to 15 accounts via Plaid. |
On a monthly bill, Monarch Core and YNAB are the same $14.99. On an annual bill, Core at $99.99 is less than YNAB at $109 and less than Copilot's limited-time $109 year. Copilot's monthly price, $18, is higher than Core's $14.99. Rocket Money is the row with a free plan that does not turn into a subscription by itself. FYN Pro at $9.99 a month is less than Core's monthly price, and more per month than Core's annual price. The bank connection is included in Monarch's price. On FYN it is not included until Pro.
Cheaper or free ways to get the same job done
"The same job" depends on which job you hired Monarch for. A cheaper app that skips net worth is not a discount on Monarch. It is a different job.
The full dashboard. Accounts, a budget filled from spending, reports, net worth, and a partner on the same subscription: that is what Core is for. Annual Core at $99.99 is already the low web price among the paid dashboards in the table. YNAB at $109 a year is the zero-based method, not a cheaper Monarch. YNAB's pricing page says you decide what the money is for before you spend it, and that one subscription covers up to six people. The 34-day trial is the longer look, if you start it on ynab.com. Copilot's homepage describes one plan for spending, budgets, investments, and net worth, on Web, iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The FAQ says institutions are US only, the trial is one month, and there is no permanent free tier. None of those three is free after the trial.
Subscriptions and bill reminders. Rocket Money's cost article puts subscription tracking, spend reviews, and bill reminders on the free plan. Custom budgets and real-time account syncing are listed under Premium, which is a price you choose, with a 7-day trial. Premium+ is $15 a month plus tax. Use the free plan if the job is "what am I still paying for?" It is not a free bank connection for a full budget. The article says real-time account syncing is a Premium feature.
Receipts, and asking questions about your spending. This is the FYN row, and FYN is our product. You can start free, with no card. On the pricing page, receipt photos and emailed receipts are one monthly count: 20 a month on Free, 200 a month on Pro. Ask FYN is 20 questions a month on Free and 500 on Pro. Read-only agent calls are 500 a day on Free and 10,000 a day on Pro. A new bank link is part of Pro, at $9.99 a month, via Plaid, up to 15 accounts. The free plan does not connect a bank. The pricing page lists 1 household member on Free and unlimited household members on Pro. Everyone shares the plan's limits. A shared member can be an owner, a member, or view-only. The pricing page does not list investment tracking or a net worth chart.
A spreadsheet still works if you will type the transactions yourself. No vendor on this page is required for that. It also will not sync a bank, itemize a receipt, or answer a question from your history. That is the trade for paying nothing.
If the price is the reason you are looking, compare the whole field on Monarch Money alternatives. If the other app is envelopes, the head-to-head is Goodbudget vs Monarch Money. If the other app is the free couples app, the head-to-head is Honeydue vs Monarch Money. Use the switch guide if you are already a customer. The row-by-row grid is FYN vs Monarch Money.
FAQ
Is Monarch Money worth it?
It is worth the price if you will use a paid dashboard for budgets, linked accounts, net worth, and reports, including with a partner on the same plan. On October 28, 2026 Monarch's pricing page listed Core at $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year, and Plus at $199.99 a year, plus tax where it applies. The trial is 7 days, and a payment method is required. It is a weak fit if you wanted a free plan, if receipts are the main job, or if you will not open the app after the trial. Monarch is a strong, polished product. The bill is the price of that dashboard, not a free start.
How much does Monarch Money cost in 2026?
On October 28, 2026 the pricing page listed Core at $14.99 a month, or $99.99 a year shown as $8.33 a month. Plus was $199.99 a year, shown as $16.67 a month. The page's structured data says those prices are in US dollars, plus tax where it applies. The Plus card is annual. A monthly Plus price was not on the page. Twelve Core payments at $14.99 come to $179.88, against $99.99 if you pay for the year. App Store and Google Play prices were not checked.
Does Monarch Money have a free plan or a free trial?
There is a 7-day trial, then the plan price. The plan cards say a payment method is required, and to cancel in settings before the trial ends. There is no free plan after the trial. The pricing FAQ also says Monarch offers a no-questions-asked money-back guarantee, and it does not say how many days that window lasts. The same FAQ recommends signing up on the web rather than in the Apple or Google store.
What is the difference between Monarch Core and Plus?
Core is the day-to-day plan: the pricing card lists net worth, a budget, custom reports, and savings and debt goals. The feature table also lists bank connections (13,000+ institutions), receipt itemizing, an AI assistant, and adding a partner for free. Plus is $199.99 a year and, in the pricing FAQ's words, is for planning further ahead: forecasting tools, multiple income sources such as a small business, and a deeper look at investments. The Plus card adds a retirement forecast, business income and expenses, P&L and tax-prep exports, advanced investment analysis, and a will. Pay for Plus only if you will use those.
Does Monarch Money work with ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes. Monarch's blog post dated October 21, 2026 says the official MCP connector is back, for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini CLI, and Cursor. You choose read access, or read and write. The help article, updated October 22, 2026, says the default is read-only unless the tool asks for write and you approve it, and that Monarch cannot undo those changes. It is on Core and Plus. Finicity-linked accounts are left out, which the article says can include some Fidelity brokerage accounts. ChatGPT is web only and needs a paid ChatGPT plan. Plus gets more weekly connector usage than Core. FYN, which we build, also has a read-only connector. Monarch's is not the only one, and FYN's is not the only one either.
Is there a cheaper way than Monarch Money?
For the full dashboard, annual Core at $99.99 is already less than YNAB's $109 a year and Copilot Money's $109 a year (a limited-time yearly price on Copilot's homepage, instead of $119). Copilot monthly was $18. Those are not free. Rocket Money's cost article lists subscription tracking, spend reviews, and bill reminders on a free plan. Budgeting and real-time account syncing are on Premium, which is a price you choose. FYN, our product, is free to start. Receipt photos and emailed receipts are 20 a month on Free and 200 a month on Pro. Bank sync is Pro only, at $9.99 a month. The pricing page lists 1 household member on Free and unlimited household members on Pro. Everyone shares the plan's limits. A shared member can be an owner, a member, or view-only. The longer list is on the Monarch Money alternatives page.
