The 7 Best Monarch Money Alternatives in 2026 (Compared)

Feature notes were checked . Prices in Free and cheaper Monarch Money alternatives were read on each vendor's pricing page. Anything this pass could not verify is marked not checked.

People leave Monarch Money for a specific job, then go looking for Monarch Money alternatives. The comparison below is for that search: price, a free start, receipts, and an assistant that can read a ledger without your bank password. If the job is a bank that stopped syncing, use Monarch Money not syncing first. This page does not walk through connection fixes.

  • Price. There is no free plan. On October 27, 2026, Core is $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year after a 7-day trial, and Plus is $199.99 a year for forecasting and deeper investment tools. A welcome code sometimes discounts the first year of annual Core. The table uses list price, because codes expire.
  • Receipts. A bank feed shows the charge. It does not show the line items, the return window, or the price you paid last time. Monarch's receipt article, re-read October 29, 2026, lets you scan, upload, or forward a receipt, then match it to a posted transaction. Line items show up when the import finds them. That import sits on a paid plan. People still leave when they want a receipt wallet they can open before they pay for bank sync.
  • A free start. FYN's free plan covers receipt photos, emailed receipts, Apple Pay and Google Wallet purchases logged as you pay, and Ask FYN. Linking a bank is Pro, at $9.99 a month, for up to 15 accounts through Plaid.
  • A read-only ledger for an assistant. Monarch relaunched an official MCP on October 21, 2026. Copilot Money advertises a read-only MCP. FYN's connector is live and read-only too. FYN is not the only one. The difference is what the connector is allowed to change, and that the model never receives a bank password. The safer path is a bank link into an app you trust, then a second, narrower pipe from that app to the assistant. The writeup of banks blocking agents that use customer logins is banks, AI agents, and a third party.

Disclosure: we build FYN, the second row of the table. We compete with Monarch. Where Monarch's own couples dashboard, investments, or Plus forecasting is the better fit, this page says so. FYN's prices and limits come from our pricing page. Competitor cells come from each company's own site. The wider field, including apps that are not Monarch replacements, is in best budget apps in 2026.

On a phone, scroll the table sideways. The app name stays pinned. Prices are US list prices before tax unless a source named another currency. App-store checkouts can differ. Free and cheaper Monarch Money alternatives

Receipts you can scan and match, a free start, and Ask FYN on a read-only ledger. A price complaint about Monarch is usually those three jobs. Scan a receipt or forward the email and keep the line items. On Pro, FYN matches that receipt to the bank charge. The free plan starts with no card: scans, emailed receipts, Apple Pay and Google Wallet purchases logged as you pay, and Ask FYN. The connector is read-only, so an assistant can read the ledger while the bank password stays out of the chat. FYN is our product, and it is in the list below. Linking a bank is Pro.

Prices in this section were read on from the pricing page linked in Sources. A dollar amount that page did not show is marked not checked. Monarch's pricing page lists no free plan. Core is $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year after a 7-day trial, shown as $8.33 a month when billed yearly. Plus is $199.99 a year, shown as $16.67 a month. A monthly Plus price was not on the page, so that figure is not checked. If you are deciding whether to keep paying, see is Monarch Money worth it. If you are still in the trial, the length and the welcome code are on the Monarch Money free trial. Cancel steps are on how to cancel Monarch Money. Export, then the next app, is on how to switch from Monarch Money. The CSV download is on how to export Monarch Money data.

What each free tier includes, and what is paywalled, is best free budget apps. The list below stays short. It is for a switch away from Monarch, and it includes paid apps that cost less than Core.

Free to open

  • Empower. The tools page says the Personal Dashboard and its financial tools are completely free. That is the free path for net worth and investments. A separate advisory fee was not on that page, so an advice price is not checked. The head-to-head is Empower vs Monarch Money.
  • Rocket Money. The cost article lists a free plan for subscription tracking, spend reviews, and bill reminders. Budgeting and real-time account sync are on Premium. Premium is a price you choose. The article does not print a dollar amount, so a specific Premium price is not checked. Premium+ is $15 a month plus tax, which is above Core's $14.99. The free plan is the cheaper path. The head-to-head is Rocket Money vs Monarch Money.
  • FYN (we build this). Scan the receipt, ask the question, then add the bank when you want it. Our pricing page lists Free at $0 with no card. Free includes photo scans and emailed receipts, 20 a month as one count, Apple Pay and Google Wallet purchases logged as you pay, and Ask FYN at 20 questions a month. The same page lists read-only agent calls, 500 a day on Free, so Claude or ChatGPT can read the ledger. The receipt scanning page says a receipt auto-matches the bank charge on Pro. Pro is $9.99 a month and adds live bank sync through Plaid, up to 15 accounts, which is under Core's $14.99 a month. Twelve monthly Pro charges come to $119.88, which is more than Core's $99.99 year, and that annual Core price includes the bank connection. The pricing page lists 1 household member on Free and unlimited household members on Pro. A shared member can be an owner, a member, or view-only. Try FYN free. The longer note is FYN vs Monarch Money.

Paid, and still under Core

  • Quicken Simplifi. The Simplifi product page lists an introductory $3.99 a month and a regular $6.99 a month, both billed annually. The footnote says the final price may differ from the monthly price multiplied by 12, that offers are for the first year only when you order from Quicken by November 26, 2026, 11:59 PT, and that they are for new memberships only. A free plan was not on that page, so a free tier is not checked. The plans-and-pricing URL did not load on this check, so anything only on that page is not checked. The head-to-head is Simplifi vs Monarch Money.
  • PocketGuard. pocketguard.com/pricing lists Premium at $12.99 a month, $74.99 a year, or $149.99 lifetime, after a 7-day trial. The month and the year are both under Core. The page lists Leftover or a custom strategy. If you want the arithmetic for what is left before payday, see how to calculate safe to spend. A lasting free plan was not on that pricing page, so a free tier is not checked. The head-to-head is PocketGuard vs Monarch Money.

Not cheaper than Core. YNAB's pricing page lists $14.99 a month or $109 a year after a 34-day trial. The month matches Core. The year costs more than $99.99. Copilot Money's homepage lists $18 a month, or $109 billed yearly as a limited-time offer instead of $119, after a 1-month trial. The FAQ on that site says there is no permanent free tier. Both prices are above Core. The Copilot comparison is Copilot Money vs Monarch Money.

When staying on Monarch is the right call

Stay if you want Monarch's own couples product: household members, each with a login, inside that dashboard, where you cannot hide an account. Stay if you want investments, net worth, and the forecasting tools on Plus ($199.99 a year, billed annually, with the same 7-day trial as Core). Stay if you already like the dashboard and the annual Core price is fine.

Leave, or at least trial something else, if the subscription is the objection, if you want receipts to be the record you start with, or if you want an assistant on a ledger that cannot edit your books. The head-to-head with YNAB's method, including when a third path fits, is YNAB vs Monarch Money. The head-to-head with Copilot, checked October 28, 2026, is Copilot Money vs Monarch Money. Feature-by-feature notes for our own product are on FYN vs Monarch Money.

FYN: receipts first, bank sync on Pro, read-only agents

We build FYN. Read this section as the vendor's own account, then check it against the limits on the pricing page.

The free plan is a receipt wallet: photo scans, receipts you forward by email, Apple Pay and Google Wallet purchases logged as you pay, and Ask FYN. It also builds an autopilot budget from your spending. Pro is $9.99 a month and adds live bank sync through Plaid, up to 15 accounts, plus price history from your receipts, dispute letters when a charge looks doubled, and an auto-match from the receipt to that bank charge. Receipt line items are the point of receipt scanning: merchant, items, and the return window, searchable in the app.

Recurring charges show up after accounts sync, which means Pro. FYN does not cancel a subscription or negotiate a bill for you. If that is the job, Rocket Money is the closer fit.

Ask FYN is the in-app chat. If you already use another assistant, FYN also has a read-only connector for Claude, ChatGPT (Plus and up), and Grok. You can revoke any app. Setup is on Connect your AI and in the MCP docs. A ChatGPT-specific walkthrough is Connect your money to ChatGPT. Monarch's connector is official, and Copilot advertises one. Use FYN's when you want the tools to stay read-only, including receipt line items on the same ledger.

Household sharing is on the pricing page. The pricing page lists 1 household member on Free and unlimited household members on Pro. Everyone shares the plan's limits. A shared member can be an owner, a member, or view-only. See pricing. Investment analysis: Not documented on the pricing page. Bank sync is Pro only.

YNAB: assign every dollar

YNAB is the method app. You give every dollar a job, approve transactions, and move money when a category runs out. On October 27, 2026 the public price is $14.99 a month or $109 a year, after a 34-day trial. YNAB Together puts up to six people on one subscription. Direct Import covers supported banks. College students can get a free year through YNAB's own program.

Honest limitation: if the upkeep is what you want to leave behind, YNAB is the opposite direction. Public pages describe photos on transactions, and they do not describe a line-item receipt ledger. YNAB's ChatGPT help page does not expose your plan to ChatGPT, and this check did not find an official MCP. See FYN vs YNAB.

Copilot Money: Apple apps, and an advertised MCP

Copilot is the polished tracker for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and the web. The public homepage on October 27, 2026 lists $18 a month, or $109 a year as a limited-time price (regular yearly price $119), after a 1-month trial. There is no permanent free plan. The page says the plan connects to 16,000+ institutions and includes the in-app money assistant. Confirm the monthly checkout if the yearly offer and the $18 price disagree.

Copilot's MCP page tells you to connect Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, or Cursor, and it publishes a server URL. It says answers come from your Copilot data and the tool cannot change anything in your accounts. That is an advertised read-only connector, the same shape of claim Monarch and FYN make, with different scope. The homepage, re-read October 29, 2026, says you can share Copilot with up to 3 people on one account at no extra cost. Amazon orders can be itemized. A general receipt scanner is not on the public pages we read.

Honest limitation: no Android app on the public platform list. See FYN vs Copilot.

Rocket Money: subscriptions and bills, with a free plan

Rocket Money's free plan is subscription tracking, spend reviews, and bill reminders. Budgeting is not on that plan. Premium is a price you choose on a sliding scale (the cost article does not print a dollar range), with a 7-day Premium trial, and it adds budgeting, custom categories, credit score tracking, and real-time account sync. Premium+ is a fixed $15 a month and adds Rowan, a text assistant.

The cost article re-read October 29, 2026 describes bill negotiation two ways: a success fee of 35 to 60 percent of the first year's savings, and negotiation included with Premium+ at no additional cost. The separate article that dates a fee change to November 2, 2026 was not re-fetched, so that date split is not checked. Partner sharing on Premium, and whether Rocket Money publishes an MCP, were not re-checked on October 29, 2026, so those notes are not checked as of that date. Receipt line items were not on the cost article.

Honest limitation: Rocket Money is built to find, cancel, and negotiate bills. It is not a household net-worth dashboard, and it will not be your receipt wallet. See FYN vs Rocket Money. The head-to-head, checked October 28, 2026, is Rocket Money vs Monarch Money.

Quicken Simplifi: a spending plan under Core's price

On October 27, 2026, Quicken's Simplifi product page and pricing page show $3.99 a month for new members and $6.99 a month after that, billed annually. There is no free plan on those pages. Simplifi builds a Spending Plan from income, bills, and subscriptions, updates it as you spend, and projects cash flow. You can share the account with one other person (a partner or an advisor). Alerts are part of the product description. Quicken Assist is the in-app AI chat. This check did not find an official MCP.

Honest limitation: the receipt feature documented in Quicken's help is an image attached to a transaction, which is a thinner record than line items you can search. The first-year price renews at the then-current rate. See FYN vs Quicken Simplifi. The head-to-head, checked October 28, 2026, is Simplifi vs Monarch Money.

Empower: a free net-worth dashboard

If Monarch Plus is what you open for investments, Empower (formerly Personal Capital) is the free dashboard. The public tools list includes net worth, budgeting and cash flow, a retirement planner, portfolio analysis, and transactions. The budget documented in Empower's help is one monthly spending total, which is a different product from category budgets. Bill reminders cover linked credit cards, loans, and mortgages. This check did not find receipt scanning or an MCP.

Honest limitation: the dashboard is free, and advisory is a separate business. Empower's Personal Strategy page says that service is available when you invest more than $100,000, and the published fee table shows 0.89% for assets from $250,000 to $999,999. You can be offered advice from inside the dashboard. See FYN vs Empower. The head-to-head, checked October 28, 2026, is Empower vs Monarch Money.

PocketGuard: one number for what is safe to spend

PocketGuard is built around Leftover, a near real-time figure of what is safe to spend after bills and goals. On pocketguard.com/pricing, Premium is $12.99 a month, $74.99 a year, or $149.99 lifetime, with a 7-day trial and no free plan. The feature list includes category budgets, rollovers, recurring bills, subscription cancel, bill lowering, unlimited bank accounts, and an in-app AI chat. No MCP showed up.

Honest limitation: bill lowering runs through partner Billshark, which PocketGuard says keeps roughly 40 percent of the first year's savings. Receipt scanning is not on the pricing feature list we read. See FYN vs PocketGuard. The head-to-head, checked October 28, 2026, is PocketGuard vs Monarch Money.

Which Monarch Money alternative should you pick?

Monarch's couples dashboard and investments: choose Monarch when you want that household product together with Plus forecasting and deeper investment tools.

You want to pay less, or nothing, for a different job: Empower if net worth and investments are the job and a category budget is not. Rocket Money's free plan if the job is subscription tracking, spend reviews, and bill reminders. Budgeting and real-time sync are Premium. Simplifi if you want a Spending Plan and you are fine paying less than Core. PocketGuard if one safe-to-spend number is enough. Tiller if you want the budget in a Google Sheet or an Excel workbook. The head-to-head, checked October 28, 2026, is Tiller vs Monarch Money. Quicken Classic if you want desktop software on Windows or Mac and a data file on your computer. The head-to-head, checked October 28, 2026, is Quicken Classic vs Monarch Money.

You want a stricter method: YNAB, if you will assign every dollar. EveryDollar, if you want that method on a free manual plan. The head-to-head, checked October 28, 2026, is EveryDollar vs Monarch Money. Goodbudget, if you want digital envelopes and a free plan you can keep. The head-to-head, checked October 28, 2026, is Goodbudget vs Monarch Money. Actual Budget, if you want the same envelope method in software you host yourself. The head-to-head, checked October 29, 2026, is Actual Budget vs Monarch Money. Honeydue, if you want a free couples app and a way to hide one transaction. The head-to-head, checked October 28, 2026, is Honeydue vs Monarch Money.

You want a custom budget period and a separate login for each collaborator: Lunch Money. The head-to-head, checked October 29, 2026, is Lunch Money vs Monarch Money.

You want a cash account and automated investing, priced as an advisory fee: Wealthfront. The head-to-head, checked October 29, 2026, is Wealthfront vs Monarch Money.

You want a cash account, a checking account, and automated investing, priced as $5 a month or an advisory fee: Betterment. The head-to-head, checked October 29, 2026, is Betterment vs Monarch Money.

You want checking, a savings account, and investing, with member benefits on a $10 membership: SoFi. The head-to-head, checked October 29, 2026, is SoFi vs Monarch Money.

You live on Apple devices and want an advertised read-only connector: Copilot Money. The homepage lists sharing for up to 3 people on one account at no extra cost. Confirm the monthly checkout if you are comparing $18 a month with the limited-time $109 year.

You want receipts, a free start, and a read-only agent ledger: FYN. Scan a receipt or forward the email on the free plan. Apple Pay and Google Wallet purchases are logged as you pay. On Pro, the receipt matches the bank charge. Ask FYN is on Free, and the connector is read-only. Bank sync is Pro, at $9.99 a month. The pricing page lists 1 household member on Free and unlimited household members on Pro. Investment analysis: Not documented on the pricing page. Try FYN free.
