How to Cancel Monarch Money
Checked .
If you searched for how to cancel Monarch Money, or how to unsubscribe, start with the place that bills you. Monarch's help center does not label a separate Unsubscribe button. The control it names is Cancel Subscription. Canceling in the wrong place does nothing.
Export the CSVs first. Monarch's download article says the full history stays available after the subscription or trial ends. Download it while you are logged in anyway. A file on your computer does not depend on that login later.
This page is the cancel guide. The price list is on Monarch Money pricing. The trial length and the charge at the end are on Monarch Money free trial. Whether the bill is worth keeping is on is Monarch Money worth it. Moving the history into another app is on how to switch from Monarch Money. Other products are on Monarch Money alternatives.
Disclosure: we build FYN. This page is on FYN's site. The product note is at the end, after the cancel steps, and it is labeled as ours.
What you are canceling
On October 29, 2026, monarch.com/pricing listed Core at $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year, shown as $8.33 a month when billed yearly. Plus is $199.99 a year, shown as $16.67 a month. Structured data on the page says those prices are in US dollars, plus tax where it applies. The plan cards say "Free 7-day trial, then" the plan price, and "Payment method required." There is no free plan after the trial.
A monthly Plus price was not on the page. App Store and Google Play prices are Not documented on that page. The pricing FAQ recommends signing up on the web rather than in those stores, and it says you can cancel anytime. The longer price note, including what Core and Plus include, is on Monarch Money pricing.
Export your data before you cancel
Do this on the web, before you cancel. Monarch's download article, updated October 20, 2026, says you can download transaction history and balance history as CSV, for one account or for all of them. It also says your full history stays available to download even after the subscription or trial ends.
One account
- On the web, go to Accounts and select the account.
- Select Edit in the top right.
- Select Download transactions or Download balance history.
Every account
- On the web, go to Settings, then Data.
- Select Download Transactions or Download account balances.
The article says a download of more than 5,000 transactions takes longer and is more likely to fail. Split a long history by date range. Rename the files when they land. Transactions and balances are two downloads. Keep both. Budgets, the phone app, and what the CSV includes are on how to export Monarch Money data.
How to cancel Monarch Money
These steps are Monarch's, from its cancel article, last updated October 20, 2026 and re-read October 29, 2026. The article splits the steps by who bills you. After you cancel, you still have access for the time remaining on the subscription. Subscriptions cannot be paused or frozen. Existing data is not deleted. After 30 days, financial connections disconnect, and no new data syncs while you are unsubscribed.
Billed on Monarch's site
- Open the Billing Settings page on the web. The article says this page is web only.
- Click Manage subscription.
- Click Cancel Subscription.
If you do not see Cancel, the article says you are likely a household member, not the household admin. Only the admin can cancel. To remove yourself, that article says to use Settings, then Security, then Delete Monarch account, and follow the confirmation steps.
The delete-account article, also updated October 20, 2026, gives household members a different menu: Settings, then Members, then Edit on your account, then Remove. It says any accounts you added under your login are removed from the household as well. Both articles were current on October 29, 2026. Follow the menu you actually see. This guide will not collapse the two menus into one path.
Admins with an active paid subscription have to cancel first. The delete article says canceling does not delete the account. After the subscription is canceled, the admin path is Settings, then Security, then Delete Account. That action is irreversible. If Apple or Google bills you, cancel in that store. Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription.
Billed by Apple
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select Monarch.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
If Monarch is not in the list, the cancel article says you may be on a family plan and need the family manager. Monarch staff cannot access App Store subscription details. Cancellations and refunds for that purchase go through Apple. The article links Apple's subscription help and Apple billing for those screens.
Billed by Google Play
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile picture in the top right.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select Monarch from the list.
That is where the cancel article stops. It does not name the button on the next screen. A second help article, Switch from App Store to Direct Billing, updated October 20, 2026, does: tap Monarch, then tap Cancel subscription. Use that tap. If Monarch is missing, the cancel article says a family manager may have to cancel it. Monarch points at Google's subscription help for the Play Store screen.
Trial timing and refunds
The trial is 7 days, and a card is required to start it. The headline on the pricing page is "Your first week is on us." The plan cards make that concrete: "Free 7-day trial, then" the plan price, then "Cancel in settings before trial ends. Payment method required." There is no free plan after that week.
The FAQ is stricter on the clock. Monarch's FAQ, updated September 12, 2026, says you are billed at the end of the trial, and the subscription auto-renews until it is canceled. You can cancel during the trial and keep access for the rest of it. If you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, you are not automatically billed. The card says "before trial ends." The FAQ says "at least 24 hours before." Use the 24-hour line if you are cutting it close.
A refund is not the same as canceling. Canceling leaves the time you already paid. You keep access until that period ends. A refund is the money-back guarantee, updated September 16, 2026. Monarch says it will refund the remaining time on the subscription, and it calls the guarantee no questions asked. When the refund is issued, the subscription is canceled and Premium access ends immediately. You can still log in to download historical data, restart the subscription, or delete the account. Do not delete the account before you request the refund. Thirty days after a subscription ends, institution connections are disconnected.
Apple App Store purchases are not eligible for that refund. Apple handles those refunds. The article does not state the same exclusion for Google Play. Google Play refund eligibility is Not documented there. Monarch says refunds depend on appropriate use, and it can decline a request when it finds fraud or abuse of the product or of a promotion.
The pricing FAQ also says there is a no-questions-asked money-back guarantee. That sentence does not give a number of days. The dated window on the plan card is the 7-day trial. The refund is remaining time on a subscription you already paid, not a second free trial.
What happens to your history
Canceling does not delete existing data. That sentence is in the cancel article. The download article says the full history stays available to download after the subscription or trial ends. The money-back article says that after a refund you can still log in to download historical data. The history already in the account is not described as deleted.
What does stop is new data. The cancel article says that after 30 days, financial connections disconnect, and no new data syncs while you are unsubscribed. The money-back article says the same disconnect, 30 days after a subscription ends, and it does not repeat the "no new data" sentence. The sync stop is the cancel article's line.
Deleting the account is the step that removes your access to that history. The delete article says deletion is permanent. You will not be able to reopen or restore the account, and you lose access to account connections, transactions, and balances. It recommends downloading transaction and account history first. Closing the account is not the same as erasing every record Monarch holds. The article says some information may be kept as described in the privacy policy, and that a request to delete personal information is a separate email to [email protected], with exceptions the law allows. What those retained fields are is Not documented on the delete article itself.
What you lose when you leave
While the paid period is still running, you keep access. A refund ends Premium access immediately. After the subscription ends, new bank data stops: connections disconnect 30 days later, and nothing new syncs while you are unsubscribed. Budgets, rules, and goals are not given a separate delete rule in the cancel article. The article's line is that existing data is not deleted. A list of which screens survive is Not documented beyond that sentence.
The paid plans also include Monarch's connector. The blog post dated October 21, 2026 says the MCP connector is back, for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini CLI, and Cursor. The connector help, updated October 22, 2026, says it is on Core and Plus. Read is the default. Write is optional, and only if the tool asks and you approve it. Finicity-linked accounts are excluded. The article does not say a connected tool keeps working after you unsubscribe. That is Not documented. What is documented is that the connector is part of Core and Plus, so it leaves with those plans.
When switching makes sense
Cancel the trial if you already know you will not use the dashboard. Do that at least 24 hours before the trial ends, and export first if you want the file.
Cancel the paid plan when you have used it and the bill is not earning a place in the week. Whether it is worth the price is on is Monarch Money worth it. The figures are on Monarch Money pricing.
Switch apps when you want a different product, not a shorter bill for the same one. The field is on Monarch Money alternatives. The export, then the next app, is on how to switch from Monarch Money. A bank that stopped updating is a different job. Fix that on Monarch Money not syncing before you treat a broken connection as a reason to leave.
Leave the household, rather than cancel the plan, when you are a member and the admin is keeping the subscription. That path deletes your login. It does not cancel the household's bill. The two menus are in the cancel section above.
Monarch's FAQ says the app is currently only available in the US and Canada, and it recommends connecting accounts only in USD or CAD. If you live somewhere else, that limit is on Monarch's own page.
Where FYN fits
FYN is the account to open if you are leaving and you want a plan that stays free. Start free. No card. The free plan never expires, and it does not ask for a card.
The pricing page lists 1 household member on Free and unlimited household members on Pro. Everyone shares the plan's limits.
Receipts are 20 a month on Free. That count covers photos and emailed receipts. Apple Pay and Google Wallet purchases are logged as you pay, on Free and on Pro.
Pro is $9.99 a month. Bank sync is Pro only, through Plaid, for up to 15 accounts. A free account does not sync a bank. On a monthly bill, $9.99 is less than Monarch Core at $14.99. You do not start a trial to keep a receipt.
The longer comparison is FYN vs Monarch Money. Open the free account when you cancel.
