Best Budget Apps for Couples in 2026
Prices and couples features checked against each company's own site on . A cell says Not documented when those pages did not state the fact, or when two of that company's pages disagreed and neither one settled it. This is not a ranking.
A search for the best budgeting app for couples is a different job from a search for the best budget app. The general comparison, including price, bank sync, and who each app is for, is best budget apps in 2026. This page stays on the couples questions: shared access, whether a partner costs extra, separate logins, and whether you can keep some money private. Monarch Money is the first row because it is the app most couples searchers compare against. The other rows follow that, and they are not ordered by score. The Android app questions, including widgets and the Play Store price, are best budget apps for Android.
The method, before you pick an app, is a different page. The money conversation, joint or separate accounts, and a yours, mine, ours split are on how to budget as a couple. This page stays on the apps.
If the question is whether Monarch is worth paying for at all, use is Monarch Money worth it. If the question is what else exists, use Monarch Money alternatives. The envelope version of the same choice is YNAB vs Monarch Money.
The comparison
Eight apps, checked . The date on the table is Checked Oct 28, 2026. Monarch Money is the first row. FYN, our product, is last. Partner access includes whether the vendor says sharing costs extra.

Monarch Money
Start here if you and a partner both want a login, and you are willing to see everything. The household article, updated October 20, 2026, says you can invite one or more people onto one subscription. Each person has a login. Everyone sees the same dashboard and the same budget. Members can change their own notification settings and add their own accounts. The FAQ, updated September 12, 2026, says it costs nothing to add those members.
You cannot hide a bank account or a transaction. Once a partner is in, they can see the connected accounts. Shared Views let you label which accounts and transactions belong to whom, so you can look at one person or both. That is a filter, not a private account. You also cannot invite an email that already has a Monarch account. That person needs a different email, or they delete the old account first.
Core is $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year, shown as $8.33 a month when billed yearly. Plus is $199.99 a year. The plan cards say a 7-day trial, then the plan price, and that a payment method is required. Cancel in settings before the trial ends. There is no free plan. Household sharing is on the subscription you already pay for. It is not a Plus-only feature on the pages checked. Bank connections use Plaid, MX, and Finicity. Monarch does not see the bank password on an OAuth connection. The data providers article was last updated June 9, 2026.
A tool that divides one grocery bill into two shares was not on the couples pages. Not documented. What is documented is one set of books, with a way to see whose transaction it was.
YNAB
YNAB Together, updated October 5, 2026, lets the subscriber invite up to five other people. That is six people on one subscription, which matches the pricing page ("up to six people" and "up to 5 favorites"). Each person has a login. Together is included. It is not a second price.
This is the closer fit when you want yours, mine, and ours as separate plans. The subscriber chooses which of their plans to share. A member's plans are always shared with the subscriber. Someone with shared access can edit the plan, including the bank connections they themselves added. They cannot delete the plan or change who else it is shared with. If you need a purchase the other person cannot see at all, Together does not give you that against the person who pays for YNAB.
The price is $14.99 a month or $109 a year, USD, plus tax where it applies. The trial is 34 days. No card is required if you sign up on YNAB's site. An app-store trial may ask for a card. There is no free plan. Direct Import covers select US, Canadian, UK, and EU banks. Everywhere else, file import. The pricing FAQ does not name the US connection partner.
A bill-split button was not on the Together article. Not documented. The practical version is two plans, or one shared plan where you assign the dollars before you spend them. The longer method comparison is YNAB vs Monarch Money.
Honeydue
Honeydue is the app built around a couple, rather than a budget app that later added a partner. The how-it-works page calls it a free mobile app and says you choose what you share. It also says the app supports over 20,000 financial institutions across 5 countries. It does not name the data provider. Not documented.
The invite article, dated August 24, 2019, says you enter a partner's name and email, and they sign up from that email. If they already have an account, the article says to delete it before the invite will connect you. That is a separate signup, with a catch for people who both already installed the app. The visibility article from the same day offers three settings after a bank connects: balances and transactions, balances only, or nothing. A later article says you can hide one transaction, such as a gift. That is the yours, mine, and ours control the other apps on this page do not match.
The "how does Honeydue earn money" article, also dated August 24, 2019, says the app is free, nothing is behind a paywall, and the company sometimes asks for a monthly tip of $1 to $10 that you can cancel in the App Store or Google Play. A newer price was not on the pages checked. The App Store listing still says the app is free, and it says you can divvy up expenses and square up. The help articles opened here do not walk through that split. The steps are Not documented in the help center.
Honeydue also has a Joint Cash page for a shared debit card. The App Store version history says that debit card program closed for new enrollments and was discontinued in 2023. This row is the budgeting app. It is not a recommendation to open that card. The head-to-head with Monarch, including the bank-count pages and the tip prices, is Honeydue vs Monarch Money.
Quicken Simplifi
Simplifi's product page says you can add one other person with Spaces and Sharing. The sharing article, dated September 1, 2026, says that person needs their own Quicken ID and does not need their own Simplifi subscription. They currently have to accept the invite in the web app. Opening the invite in the mobile app prompts them to buy a subscription. After they accept, they use your Simplifi data. Sharing only some accounts, or only some features, is not available yet. So this is separate logins, and it is not a private account.
The product page shows $3.99 a month introductory and $6.99 a month regular, both billed annually. There is no monthly plan. The footnote says the offer is for the first year, for new memberships, when you order from Quicken by November 26, 2026, 11:59 PT. The final price may differ from the monthly rate times 12. Renewals are at the then-current rate. The subscription FAQ, dated September 22, 2026, says there is no free trial. It offers a 30-day money-back guarantee from the original purchase date, for subscriptions bought on Quicken.com. A refund ends access right away. There is no free plan.
The product page says Simplifi connects to over 14,000 institutions. The subscription FAQ limits that to US and Canadian accounts, USD or CAD, one currency at a time. The name of the connection partner was not on those pages. Not documented. A partner bill-split was not on the sharing article. Not documented.
EveryDollar
EveryDollar's product page says the household feature lets a couple manage one budget, each signed in with a separate email. The invite article, updated September 2, 2026, walks through Settings, then the Ramsey account page, then Household. The spouse accepts with their own Ramsey account. Both people see and edit the household owner's budget. The spouse's previous budget is hidden while they are linked, and it comes back if the link is removed. It is not deleted. That is one shared budget, not three.
The article does not say the invite costs extra, and it does not say Premium is required. Whether household sharing is on the free plan: Not documented.
The free plan does not expire. You enter transactions yourself. Premium, after a 14-day trial for new users, is $17.99 a month or $79.99 a year (the product page also shows that yearly price as $6.67 a month). The cost article was updated September 28, 2026. Bank connection is Premium only. The product page names Plaid and Mastercard Connect. The free plan's "split transactions" line means a split across budget categories. A split between two partners: Not documented.
Goodbudget
Goodbudget's partner article says the other person logs in with the same email and password. Both can add transactions. That is shared access. It is not a separate login. The device article says the free plan shares the budget with up to two phones, and Premium supports up to five. Signing in on the website does not count toward that phone limit. A third person's phone is the reason to pay, not a second subscription.
The subscribe article, last updated February 1, 2020, still lists the free limits as 10 regular envelopes, 10 goal envelopes, 1 account, and 2 devices. Premium is $10 a month or $80 a year: bank sync for US banks, unlimited envelopes and accounts, 5 devices, and 7 years of history. A free trial is not named. The same article says to email within 30 days of subscribing if you want a refund. Separate yours, mine, and ours accounts: Not documented. The product is one envelope budget on the phones that share the login. The head-to-head with separate logins is Goodbudget vs Monarch Money.
Copilot Money
Read Copilot's own pages together, because they do not say the same thing. The household section says you can have up to 3 people on the account, with full access at no extra cost, and that you can view personal and joint accounts side by side. The pricing block on the same site says "Invite your partner coming this fall." Those sentences were both on the public site on . This page will not pick which one is the live product.
The help article, dated September 1, 2026, is the concrete how-to. A partner uses a Magic Link into the same account. They do not get a separate login. Any extra signed-in device has full control. The article's tips are category groups per person, tags for whose transaction it is, and adding a joint account once so the charges are not duplicated. A refund for a shared expense can be edited into the same category as the purchase. A calculator that divides a bill: Not documented.
The pricing block showed a limited-time yearly price of $109, written as $9 a month, instead of $119. The page's structured data also lists a monthly subscription at $18. That $18 figure was not in the visible yearly view, so treat the monthly checkout as the number on the screen when you toggle it. The FAQ says there is no permanent free tier, and that new users get a 1-month trial. Bank connections cover 16,000+ US institutions. The FAQ says the connection is read-only and that Copilot does not store the bank credentials.
What this page left out
The seven names above are the ones this roundup set out to check, and each one has a public page that describes sharing with a partner. None of them was dropped. Apps that are not in that set, including the ones on the general 2026 roundup, are out of scope here. A couples feature that was not on the vendor page is written as Not documented. It is not a guess that the feature exists, and it is not a claim that a button is missing from a screen we did not open.
Where FYN fits
FYN is our product, and it is the last row. On Pro, a couple shares one household: unlimited household members, and everyone shares the plan's limits. A shared member can be an owner, a member, or view-only. Free includes 1 household member, which is just you. One partner can still scan receipts on the free plan, 20 a month. Pro is $9.99 a month. Bank sync is on Pro only. The plan table is on pricing.
FAQ
What is the best budget app for couples in 2026?
There is not one winner. Monarch Money is the first row because it is the app couples usually compare against: separate logins, one subscription, and one shared dashboard. You cannot hide an account or a transaction there. YNAB Together fits a couple that will assign dollars, and the subscriber can leave one of their own plans unshared. Honeydue is the free app that lets each person choose what a partner sees. The table on this page is the comparison. It was checked on October 28, 2026.
Does Monarch Money charge extra for a partner?
No. Monarch's household help, updated October 20, 2026, says everyone is on one subscription, and it costs nothing to add members. Each person has a login. Core is $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year. Plus is $199.99 a year. There is no free plan. The trial is 7 days, and the pricing page says a payment method is required.
Which of these apps let a couple keep some money private?
Honeydue's help says you can share balances and transactions, balances only, or nothing, and you can hide one transaction. YNAB Together lets the group manager choose which of their plans to share. A member's plans are still shared with the manager. Monarch says you cannot hide a bank account or a transaction once someone is in the household. Simplifi's sharing article says sharing only some accounts is not available yet. EveryDollar's household article describes one shared budget. The spouse's own budget is hidden while they are linked. Goodbudget uses one login for one budget. A private account inside Goodbudget: Not documented.
Do couples need two subscriptions?
Not on the apps whose pages describe sharing as part of the plan. Monarch, YNAB, Simplifi, and the Honeydue help article put a partner on the same product without a second subscription. EveryDollar's household article does not say the invite costs extra. Whether that invite requires Premium: Not documented. Goodbudget sharing is the same login. A third phone is a Premium device limit, not a second subscription. Copilot's site does not agree with itself. One section says up to 3 people on the account at no extra cost. The pricing block says a partner invite is coming this fall.
Can these apps split one purchase between two people?
Honeydue's App Store listing says you can divvy up expenses and square up. The help articles opened for this page do not describe that step, so the how-to is Not documented there. EveryDollar's free plan splits a transaction across categories. That is not a split between two people. A partner split in EveryDollar: Not documented. Copilot's help article says you can edit a refund into the same category as a shared expense. A calculator that divides a bill: Not documented. A tool that divides one charge between two people was not on the couples pages checked for Monarch, YNAB, Simplifi, or Goodbudget.
Is FYN a good budget app for couples?
Yes. FYN is a couples option on Pro: unlimited household members, and everyone shares the plan's limits. A shared member can be an owner, a member, or view-only. Free includes 1 household member. Pro is $9.99 a month. Bank sync is on Pro only. One partner can scan receipts on the free plan, 20 a month.
