Claude Personal Finance vs ChatGPT Finances
Short answer. Use Personal Finance in Claude when you already live in Claude and your Pro, Max, or Ultra account in the United States has the beta. Use Finances in ChatGPT when you want the link inside ChatGPT, including on the Free plan in the United States, plus a credit score. Use FYN when the same balances, budget, and receipts have to be readable in Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok Bot. The first two are native and convenient. FYN is the shared layer. None of the three moves money.
Checked against Anthropic's Personal Finance announcement, Claude's Personal Finance help (that page said it was updated the same day), Claude pricing, OpenAI's Finances announcement, and OpenAI's Finances help (that page said it was updated 11 days earlier). FYN figures are from our pricing page and MCP docs. A cell that says "Not documented" means those pages did not say, not that the feature is missing.
The names, and what shipped
The product in Claude is Personal Finance in Claude. Reporters had called an earlier unreleased screen Claude Money. Anthropic's announcement and help do not use that name. The product in ChatGPT is Finances in ChatGPT. OpenAI's help and the October 2, 2026 update both use Finances, not "ChatGPT Finance."
Personal Finance is not generally available. The announcement says it starts rolling out in beta this week, on Pro, Max, and Ultra, in the United States. The help article says the same plans and country, on Claude's web app, Claude Desktop, iOS, and Android, and says you might not see it yet. It is not on Free, Team, or Enterprise. It is not in Claude Duet. Outside the United States, or on a VPN that connects from another country, the help says Personal Finance does not appear until you are back. Your banks stay linked.
Finances is further along, and still described as a United States feature. OpenAI's help says it is available in the United States to Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users on web, iOS, and Android. The October 2, 2026 update says the Free and Go expansion was a rollout. The June 25, 2026 update said Plus and Pro already had it on web, iOS, and Android. The help article does not mention the ChatGPT desktop app. A side-by-side of FYN and Finances is on FYN vs ChatGPT Finances. FYN and Personal Finance are on FYN vs Claude Personal Finance.

| Where it opens | Web, Claude Desktop, iOS, Android. Not Claude Duet. | Web, iOS, Android. Desktop app: not mentioned in the Finances help. | iPhone, Android, and web, then any MCP client you connect. |
| Price | Included on Pro ($20 a month, or $17 a month at $200 up front), Max ($100 a month), and Ultra ($200 a month). Not on Free. Web prices. Mobile Max and Ultra can differ. | No separate price. | Bank link | Plaid. Up to 16 U.S. banks. You pick the accounts. Unlink is the whole bank login, not one account. | Plaid, described as more than 12,000 institutions. You pick the accounts. A published bank-count cap: Not documented. | Plaid. Free is one bank login and every account it brings. Pro links up to 15 bank accounts. |
| What it reads | Bank name, account name, type, last four digits, balances, credit limits, and up to 24 months of transactions. | Balances, transactions, investments, and liabilities when the institution shares them. Not full account numbers. History length: the institution decides. | The copy FYN already keeps: balances, transactions, budgets, subscriptions, receipts. The MCP server does not call the bank itself. |
| Investments | Balances and credit limits. Not holdings, trades, rates, or terms. | Portfolio allocation, net worth, and daily changes in stock and ETF holdings, when that data is shared. Some connections share a balance and not holdings. | Holdings and a portfolio dashboard: Not documented on the pricing page. |

| Budget | Widgets can store settings such as budgets. Unlinking the last bank deletes those settings. | Planning in chat. You can ask whether you are on pace for a grocery budget, reclassify a transaction, and have ChatGPT remember the correction. | FYN categorizes each transaction and builds the budget from the last three months of spending. |
| Household logins | Not documented in the Personal Finance help. | You can tell ChatGPT that rent is split with a partner, and it can save that as a financial memory. A second login: Not documented. | Free is one member. Pro shares the household with unlimited members. |
| Receipt line items | Not documented in the Personal Finance help. | Not documented in the Finances help. | Scan or forward a receipt. Price history is on Pro. |
| Model training | Chats in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train models. Outside the hub, your privacy settings apply. | Finances chats follow ChatGPT's model-training setting. Change it under Settings, then Data controls. | FYN does not train models on your data. The assistant's own chat still follows that assistant's setting. |
| Moves money? | No. Read-only. It cannot move, manage, or invest money. | No. It cannot move money, pay bills, make trades, or open accounts. | No. Plaid is read-only, and the MCP tools have no transfer path. |
| Other assistants | The link stays in Claude. Custom connectors are a separate path Claude still documents. | The Finances link stays in ChatGPT. Custom MCP servers are a separate path. | One URL for Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok Bot. |
| Log of what the app asked | Not documented in the Personal Finance help. | Not documented in the Finances help. | Agent activity in FYN. FYN emails you when a new app connects. |
What you give the assistant
Claude, for the accounts you choose, sees the bank's name, each account's name, type, and last four digits, balances and credit limits, and up to 24 months of transactions, including amount, date, merchant, category, and the bank's description. Plaid usually passes the last few digits of the account number. If the bank writes a full number into an account name or a transaction description, Claude may see it there. Loans, cards, and investment accounts are balances and credit limits only. The help says Claude does not read holdings, trades, rates, or terms, even if Plaid's own screen asks you to share that kind of data.
ChatGPT, once you connect accounts, can access balances, transactions, investments, and liabilities. It cannot see full account numbers. The dashboard can show spend by category, this month against recent trends, upcoming payments, subscriptions, bills, net worth, portfolio distribution, daily changes in stock and ETF holdings, and an Experian credit score. Widgets appear only when ChatGPT has enough data. An institution may share a balance and withhold transactions, holdings, loan details, APRs, or due dates. OpenAI does not publish a fixed history window. It says some institutions provide limited history.
Both products can be wrong. Claude's help says balances can be a day or two old, that an account linked through two logins may be counted twice, and that a bank Claude cannot read is left out of the spending figures, so a budget widget can show more money left than you have. OpenAI says transfers, card payments, reimbursements, or duplicate pending transactions can make a spending breakdown look high, and that you can ask which transactions were included. Check a number that matters against the bank.
Budget, household, and the work after the answer
Personal Finance is a question box with widgets, not a documented envelope budget. You can add, edit, remove, and reorder widgets for spending, cash flow, accounts, subscriptions, upcoming bills, and short insights. The help mentions widget settings such as budgets, and says those settings are deleted, along with the dashboard, if you unlink your last bank. That deletion cannot be undone. Asking "where did my money go" is the flow the announcement demonstrates. A budget you assign and reconcile every month: Not documented.
Finances is also chat plus a dashboard. The help lists planning budgets, savings goals, debt payoff, and major purchases as things you can ask. It shows a sample question about staying inside a grocery budget. You can reclassify a transaction in the conversation and ask ChatGPT to remember the correction. Financial memories can hold a goal, a private loan, or the fact that rent is split with a partner. You can view or delete those memories from the Finances page. A shared login for a second person: Not documented. Manual accounts are in the October 2 update, for money you have not connected.
That is the native convenience. You open the assistant you already pay for, or already use, and the accounts are there. The limit is the same on both sides. The link does not travel. Claude's help says linked accounts cannot be used in scheduled tasks, Cowork, or Claude Code, and may not work in a project. OpenAI's Finances help describes the dashboard and the chat inside ChatGPT. We found no page that lets Claude or Grok read that Finances connection.
FYN is built for the part that has to survive a switch of assistant. It categorizes each transaction itself and builds the budget from the last three months of spending. A receipt scan or an email forward keeps the line items. Price history is on Pro. On Pro, a household can have unlimited members, each with a login. Free is one member. Double-charge letters and the bank's deadlines stay in the FYN app. They are not an MCP tool. The Claude comparison and the ChatGPT comparison carry the longer feature grids.
Privacy is not the same switch
Anthropic says chats inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models. Anything you send outside the hub follows your Claude privacy settings. The data can appear in the chat and stay until you delete that chat. A shared chat link can show figures from your accounts. An artifact made from those accounts can keep showing figures after you delete the chat, until you delete the artifact too.
OpenAI says Finances conversations follow the same model-training setting as the rest of ChatGPT. The control is Settings, then Data controls. Temporary chats do not read the connected accounts and do not create memories. Disconnecting Finances deletes synced account data from OpenAI within 30 days. It does not delete figures already written into old chats. Bank accounts and the Experian credit report are separate connections. Disconnecting one does not disconnect the other.
Read-only is true of all three, so it is not a reason to pick FYN by itself. Claude cannot move, manage, or invest money. ChatGPT cannot move money, pay bills, change account settings, make trades, or open accounts. FYN's Plaid connection and its MCP tools are read-only too. The difference is where the off switch sits, and whether you can see the request. In FYN, Agent activity names the app and the kind of read. Revoke the app under Settings, then Agent access, and later calls fail. Claude and ChatGPT document unlink and disconnect. A log of each question the model asked: Not documented in either help article.
Other connectors still work
Personal Finance does not close Claude's connector list. The Personal Finance help tells you how to turn the Plaid connector off for ordinary chats, under Connectors. Custom remote connectors remain a separate setup, including on Claude Free, which can add one. The steps for FYN are in Connect your money to Claude. Other budgeting apps publish connectors too. Monarch and Copilot Money are two of them. FYN is the path this site runs. It is not the only one.
Finances does not close ChatGPT's connector list either. OpenAI's custom MCP help, read November 5, 2026, says you can connect a server someone else built, and that a chat can use more than one app. The same article says Pro users can connect a custom MCP server with read/fetch permissions, and that full MCP is currently for Business and Enterprise/Edu. It does not restate Plus in that availability answer. FYN's tools are read-only, so they need a read connection, not a write connection. Setup for that path is in Connect your money to ChatGPT.
Where FYN fits
Pick Personal Finance if the beta is on your Claude account and Claude is the only assistant you want holding the bank link. You get the sidebar, the widgets, and hub chats that Anthropic says are kept out of training. You do not get a documented credit score, investment holdings, or a way for ChatGPT to see those accounts.
Pick Finances if you want the broader dashboard that is already described for Free through Pro in the United States: spending, bills, subscriptions, net worth, portfolio, weekly insights, and an Experian score. You accept ChatGPT's training setting, and you accept that the link stays in ChatGPT. If Finances is missing, the fixes are in ChatGPT Finances troubleshooting. What a statement upload is risking is in Is it safe to connect ChatGPT to your bank?
Pick FYN if you use more than one assistant, or you want the budget and the receipts to stay put when you do. The free plan includes one bank connection: one Plaid login, and the accounts under that login. Pro is $9.99 a month, links up to 15 bank accounts, and includes unlimited household members. Add the same FYN URL in Claude, in ChatGPT, and in Grok Bot. Grok's own finance connector is a separate product, compared on FYN vs Grok Finance. You can keep Personal Finance or Finances connected for the native screen and still point the assistant at FYN for the shared record. The two links are not the same data.
What these pages do not say
- No date for when every eligible Claude account will see Personal Finance. The help says the rollout is gradual.
- No country list beyond the United States for either product, and no date for a launch outside it.
- No bank-count cap for Finances. Claude's cap is 16 banks. FYN's cap is one connection on Free and 15 accounts on Pro.
- No published history window for Finances. Claude's is up to 24 months, and a bank can still send less.
- No claim that Intuit is live inside Finances. The May 15, 2026 announcement said Intuit support was coming. The Finances help read on November 5, 2026 does not describe an Intuit connection.
- The X post that pointed at the launch could not be read from this check. The announcement page and the help article are the sources above.
FAQ
Is Claude Personal Finance the same product as ChatGPT Finances?
No. Personal Finance in Claude is Anthropic's bank link inside Claude. Finances in ChatGPT is OpenAI's bank link inside ChatGPT. The official names are those, not "Claude Finance" or "ChatGPT Finance." Each one uses Plaid, and each one is read-only. They do not share a login, a dashboard, or a connected account.
Is Claude Personal Finance generally available?
Not as of November 5, 2026. Anthropic's announcement says Personal Finance starts rolling out in beta this week on Pro, Max, and Ultra in the United States. The help article, updated that day, says the same, adds web, Claude Desktop, iOS, and Android, and says you might not see it yet. It is not on Free, Team, or Enterprise, and it is not in Claude Duet.
Is Finances in ChatGPT free?
OpenAI does not list a separate price for Finances. The help article says it is available in the United States to Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users on web, iOS, and Android. The October 2, 2026 update on OpenAI's announcement says the Free and Go rollout was underway. The help article does not mention the ChatGPT desktop app.
Can Claude read my ChatGPT Finances connection, or the other way around?
We did not find a help page that says so. Personal Finance stays inside Claude. Finances stays inside ChatGPT. Claude's linked accounts are not available in Claude Code, Cowork, or scheduled tasks. ChatGPT's custom MCP help, read the same day, says ChatGPT can connect other servers, including servers someone else built, and can use more than one app in a chat. That is a different connection from Finances. It does not export the Finances link to Claude or Grok.
Where does FYN fit if I already use one of them?
FYN is a third record, not a replacement login for either product. Link one bank on the free plan (one Plaid login, and the accounts under it) or up to 15 bank accounts on Pro at $9.99 a month. Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok Bot can each read that record over MCP. The tools are read-only, and Agent activity shows what each app asked. Personal Finance and Finances can stay connected. Nothing in the two help articles says opening one blocks the other. Read-only bank access is not unique to FYN, and other apps publish MCP connectors too.
